
Harshal Singh Chauhan is a first-year PhD student in Information Systems at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), specializing in health informatics. He holds a Master’s degree in Health Information Technology from UMBC and is a dental surgeon from India, where he practiced clinically before transitioning to informatics. His interests include population health, health information systems, and applying machine learning to improve health outcomes and policy.
A Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CAHIMS), Harshal is actively involved in the health IT community as an Ambassador for HIMSS and AMIA, and as a peer reviewer for both organizations. He serves as Vice President of Graduate Affairs for USMSC (University System of Maryland Student Council) & Phi Kappa Phi UMBC, and as a Writing Advisor with the Office of Graduate Student Life/Graduate Student Association. His labor has been recognized with honors including the Maryland HIMSS Scholarship, USM Women’s Forum Scholarship, Career Center Intern of the Week (Quality Measure Set/Survey Data Research Intern), and the Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning Award.
