Hi, my name is Ian Stockwell and I am an Associate Professor of Information Systems at UMBC. I am relatively new to faculty life but have spent the last 20 years working in healthcare operations. During that time I focused on the quantitative analysis of a diverse array of healthcare data sources. By applying sophisticated analytical methods to these data, I helped clients build more effective and efficient health care programs while sharing what I learned with the research community.

My current focus area is developing and implementing predictive models to assess the probability of adverse events among at-risk populations, including older adults and individuals with disabilities. I lead the development of two such models that are currently in production environments, helping to coordinate the care of ~2M Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries every day. I have served as principal investigator or project director for projects funded by many partners, including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Commonwealth Fund, the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes for Health, and multiple state agencies. I also teach multiple bioinformatics courses to undergraduate and graduate students.
